Comfortable Silence
The demon of loneliness enjoys your company. He doesn't mean to be so quiet, he just likes being near.

Bedtime Stories
The monster under the bed is tired too. He may like the dark, but he likes a good story even more, and you might realize he looks a lot less scary in the light.

Monsters in the deep
They found a plastic bag at the bottom of the Mariana trench.

Tea Party
Sometimes demons are summoned for less nefarious purposes. Although it may be confusing for them, they won't complain about a free tea-party.

Papercut Art

Devine Self
Paper, acrylic ink, acrylic paint, crayon, on canvas
Devine Self is a love letter to sapphic flesh in honor and reverence of the feminine form. In opposition to purity culture, this piece frames masterbation as an act of transcendence via self-worship.
Each pillow is an individual piece glued together to form a base for the figure, meant to emulate the vulva.
Meat man
Paper, watercolor, handheld mirror
Every time I look in the mirror
I see a different face
I don't recognize myself
by what meat is where

Writing/poetry
In the house of mamas
There are no men in the house of mamas
only boys
little ones clinging
to their mothers' skirts the
same way I do
carrying the same full trash bags we are
Standing in the same line to get the same shots
I'm scared of needles
but we're not allowed in without it
Mama has to hold me down
The hallways are endless
No one looks up as we pass
There are children are gathered around the TV
fenced in by stacks of VHS tapes piled high enough to
wobble when you get too close
The elder sons watch over them
Elder daughters are in the kitchen helping
the mamas cook
Everyone has their own food
No one has enough
They feed the children first
The house of Mamas is a place of sickness
If one child is ill
So are the rest
The scent of vomit will never wash out of the cushions
There are bugs in the carpet
lice in our hair
Mucus in our eyes
Fevers high enough to
make our mamas cry
No one goes to the doctors
No one can afford it
Bowls of ginger and mustard seed are passed around
Bathtubs are filled with ice
The sick are sprawled across the common room
We take turns laying on the couch
The rest are on the floor
Between rows of pillows and blankets
Mapped out from the strongest to the weakest
No one sleeps
We can hear our mamas praying
It isn't the first plague
and it won't be the last
It's the first time I meet death
it won't be the last either
The house of mamas is bare and empty
Our room has one window
a small one too high up for my legs to reach
a wire bunk bed on one side
the bathroom door on the other
We share it with our neighbors
There's a handprint on the mirror
smaller than mine
Mama teaches me how to lean a chair against our side
There's a lock but
locks aren’t that strong, she says
I'm not allowed to open the door
I'm not allowed to leave the room without her
I get to know the neighbors
The mama in the next room has a boy
he says he's my age, but he’s far too small
I don’t think he’s lying
We talk through the bathroom at night
When our mamas are gone
My neighbor on the other side talks to me through the vent
We pass messages down the halls
Little whispers from room to room
Sometimes it gets lost in translation but
we try our best
We make plans, we sneak out for hours
To hang out with the big kids after our bedtimes
and race to jump back in our beds
before our mamas get back from work
We teach each other secret knocks
ones that mean different things
We make our mamas birthday presents
out of cut up magazines and glitter glue
We take turns picking which movie to watch and
fall asleep on top of each other
some of us dangling halfway off the couch
We scramble to clean up our spills
so that our mamas don't have to
We share our plain bandaids
and trade our pretty ones
We have a currency
of stickers and McDonalds toys and
stale halloween candy
We pay each other for favors
We use our birthday candles to wish for houses, for mansions, for castles, four walls and a roof
We tell each other about our papas
Most don't have one
some do, some did
We pick the lock to the big balcony
to sit together at night
between strung up laundry
and dusty brooms
we make wishes on the stars
not one wish is for us
We mourn the ones that leave
but we know they’re somewhere
better
We hold each other when we
miss being held
We wipe each others' tears
There are no men in the house of mamas
Only us
and our mamas.
Weepless
I’ve always been a weeper
Welled up sockets too small to contain
one more drop sends the whole
eyeball spilling down my cheeks
But I was too old to cry
unwarranted
unless someone had died or
a bone had been broken
Hurt feelings
were no reason to make mama feel so bad for doing the hurting
The audacity of my leakage
was met with a leather belt
so I learned to keep my feelings in my pockets
and drip dark puddles in the
unseen and unheard
safety
Until he came along
and held me to his chest
with his hands in my hair brushing
down my back
He’d pull the corks from my eyes and let
me drown
him in my sorrows
perched on his lap
I’d cry my little heart out
while he whispered to me
sweet nothings
And he’d tell me he loved me
and I’d believe him
And then he’d fuck me
and I’d let him
Gratefully
What a pitiful thing to feel so loved
by a man with no love in his heart
The only thing he had was
want
and the patience to wait
for his turn
How could I have known
that sweetness is
not the same thing as kindness?
Or that the weepful will owe
the weepless
for their time.
About rocks
There's nothing special about a rock
There never has been
Commonality in abundance, trails of simple things
Pick one up
feel the weight of it in your hands before you
let it fall
hope you looked hard enough to find it again
Nothing to worry about if you can't, there's hundreds just like it just a glance away
You can take handfuls and leave without any indication
you were ever there
You can let them tumble from the pockets of your corduroys
You can set them down in the dirt and
forget they ever graced your skin
so you can go find more tomorrow
leaving meaningless little piles of the mundane in your wake
There's nothing special about a rock
not by itself
not when it's sitting in the cracks of the sidewalk snug
between the asphalt and my heel
Not until I spot it
and out of the ordinary nothing
I see the premonition of your smile
I feel the weight in my hands and
I cradle it gently
Something that has become precious
for the small chance you might like it
I never cared about rocks
I was just wondering if you ever looked at something so painfully regular and
made it special with the thought of me
Or if you only saw a rock and
picked it up for the sake of picking it up
to have something to do with your hands
I left the one you gave me outside
there was nothing special about it.
You won’t be mist
Loving you was like walking naked through a mist
The haze was thick, the air was cold
The vapor settled heavy on my shoulders
A constant condensation dripping down my spine
I couldn’t see beyond arms reach, but I could see the ground beneath my feet, confident in my stride
If there was a stone I knew I wouldn’t trip
If there was a ditch I knew I wouldn’t drop
I knew where I was going
Because you told me where to go
And I had no reason to doubt your words
I just had to make it there
Further now further one
Foot after the other
Following the promise of home
Somewhere safe somewhere close
I knew it would be warm there
I knew it would be bright there
I knew you were waiting for me there
Just a little
Just a little further
I catch my breath and feel puddles in my lungs
But my fallacy had long since sunk
It’s been some time since I’ve felt my fingers
I’ve been shivering, rushing forward
Sure i was going the right direction
Just a little further now
Just a little
Just a little further
I am dripping
It’s not raining yet I am soaked, the moisture clings
To my skin and it seeps right through me
I am paper becoming pulp, soaking in every drop every tear every heavy sigh
It sticks to me, but I have room to spare even if my steps
Are growing heavy, leaning steadily to the side, still going
The right direction
My toes sinking deeper into the mud–
It’s fine
I am fine
I know can take it
And I know it will be alright as soon as I get to where I am going
As soon as I reach where it is warm, and where you are waiting to welcome me home because you said you would
I know you will bring me in and wash me off and bundle me into your arms
And I will be safe and I will be warm and you will be there and it’s
Just a little
Just a little
A little a little
Just a little further now
Just a little further now
I can’t feel it when I cry, I am already so saturated it doesn’t make a difference
All I can think of is my deliverance surely
Surely I will be there soon just a little
Just a little just a little just a little
Light
The clouds have parted and I close my eyes, it’s been too long since I’ve seen and it’s far too bright, I look forward
And I am nowhere
I haven’t left where I had started
And you are standing there two feet in front of me, misty eyed, blubbering excuses
Standing there in your raincoat and boots
And then you're gone
And its warm
And its bright
And what a monumental waste of time
That was.
There's something about an echo that haunts me
A second something
One, two, and then we're done A pair of socks an
extra straw in case the first one breaks a word said once more
in case you didn't hear it the first time are you sure? my mother's eyes (green)
Tell me again I want to be sure A lie
when you're mad at me a truth
when it feels safe again
my shoes halfway on, one more
apology one more
forgiveness maybe
this time will be different
Two hands - fingers entwined
Two feet, one long stride
Togetherness, two voices answering after another bouncing off the walls
alone but not really
it's probably still behind me Two
reflections in the mirror one
isn't supposed to be there
and I can't shake the feeling it's mine
please remind me you love me say it
a second time
just in case I hear you wrong the first
One jacket by the door, the other is
being worn
Two stars in the sky, one is blinking so is
the other
slowly moving away from eachother
The moon will greet the sun at noon
the sun will set soon after but
which is more at peace
The one that chases or the one that leaves?
I'll always have a backup in case something happens to the first
in case you need it more than I do
in case you leave me alone
I was never a salmon
I’m from the places I’ve hardly ever been
Fleeting visits to unfamiliar streets
Half-formed memories left in the dust
Done with one home and onto the next
before the blueprints have the chance to draft themselves
Lines in the sand
Washed away as quick as they were drawn
Better to ride the current than to swim upstream; I was never a salmon
I am the hermit crab
Carrying my home filled with blurry picture frames
Glass smooth and frosted from years of tumbling
Beneath the waves
Beneath my feet
Step by step
Done with one home and onto the next
Lost in translation
Meanings upon meanings the nature of definition; Deception
Comes easy to the tongue
Love does not mean to me what love means to you
Love is I’m Sorry
Love is Believe Me
Love is Well Done
When eyes face to eyes and lips whisper lies and I hear the line an
“I love you.”
Meanings upon meanings
not one to my ear to explain
What I’d done to earn it
What you’d done to say it
How I should fix it
Definition; discomfort comes easy to skin
I’d rather not hear it at all
